Natural Remedies for Mouth Ulcers in Adults

Stress as the part of our life like stress at work or at home can cause mouth ulcers. Not only stress, mouth ulcers can be caused by excess acidity, hereditary, accidental bites, deficiency iron, vitamin C, vitamin B complex and many more. Mouth ulcers can be annoying because it makes you feel uncomfortable while you talk, eat or drink. Sometimes mouth ulcers are sting too. There are various pharmacy drugs that can ease the pain of mouth ulcers. However if there are natural home remedies for mouth ulcers in adult, I bet you prefer the natural one since they are safer and affordable.

Coconut milk

Coconut milk can relieve the pain from your mouth ulcers. For simple way, you can rinse your mouth with coconut milk few times a day. For better effect, mix one tablespoon of coconut milk with some honey. Then use this concoction to massage the ulcers area. Repeat the process three to four times a day.

Licorice roots

Licorice roots have several benefits for mouth ulcers. First, they give additional coating at mucous membrane to resist from any irritation. Second, they can soothe the pain. Third, licorice roots have antimicrobial properties to prevent bacteria being aggravate. And fourth, licorice roots also have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce infection at ulcers. All you have to do is crushing the licorice roots. Then soak one tablespoon of crushed licorice roots in two cups of water. Let it for two and three hours. Use the soak water to rinse the mouth several times a day. If you do not have time to crush or soak the licorice roots there are extract deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) in the form of tablet which very practice to chew or to drink after it dissolves in warm water.

Coriander seeds

Ayurveda medicine used coriander seed as treatment of mouth ulcers in adults since coriander seeds can relieve the pain and reduce the swelling of ulcers. One teaspoon of coriander seeds boiled in a cup of water. Strain off the water from the seeds and let it cool. Use water to rinse your mouth. Repeat the process for three or four times a day.

Baking soda

Sodium bicarbonate or known as baking soda is the simplest antimicrobial we can get in our house. Baking soda also reduce the swelling of ulcers and neutralize the acidity in our mouth. You can make baking soda paste and dab it to ulcers areas or just simply sprinkle baking soda over the ulcers. Do that for several times a day.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera gel or juice can soothe the pain and disinfect the ulcers. Apply the gel or juice over ulcers for several times a day. Not only mouth ulcers, aloe vera is also beneficial to other oral problems like gingivitis, cold sores and lichen planus.

Honey

Honey has antimicrobial properties to disinfect the ulcers. It also retain moisture in mucous membrane. Dab honey over the ulcers area. It stings a little bit but honey is proven can speed the healing times.

Celery

Celery contains folic acid and vitamin B complex which good for oral’s health. Fresh celery stalk also contains analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties so if you chew the stalk, you won’t feel the pain anymore. Do not throw the pulp away, hold celery pulp over the ulcers for 10 minutes to give the best treatment of mouth ulcers in adults.
